Hello fellow Clan Members, my name is David.
One of my loves is gardening, I am no expert, but an enthusiast who gets much pleasure from pottering about in the garden.
I have some handy tips and ideas I would like to share with you, and hope you’ll find them of interest.
Between now and the end of December is the time of year we plant our Daffodil bulbs.
Ever wanted red tinted Daffodil blooms? Here’s one way to achieve the colour transformation.
Take one large beetroot and cut off the root part, hollow out the middle enough to fit the Daffodil bulb you have chosen.
Place the bulb inside the beetroot and then carefully plant it. As the bulb starts to grow it feeds off the beetroot so that when it flowers in the spring you’ll get red tinted flowers.
This only works for one year, you would have to repeat for each bulb the following year.
When planting your spring bulbs for a continuous display of colours, plant them in layers of different depths.
Late flowering Tulips deepest, with Narcissus (Daffs) above them and Snowdrops and Scillas on top.
Always remember to catch the weeds before they produce seeds.
One years seed, Seven years weed, is part of Gardening Lore.
Till next time.
Yours Aye
David.
