David Anthony Hunter Marks

18th October 1949 - 27th March 2005

This is a short memorial to David to share with family and friends who he was.

David had a real love of life, he was also a great people person. He loved meeting new people, and those who knew him know he was a dedicated and trusted friend to all.

He had a particular love of his garden, dedicating many hours to it, as well as helping others with their gardens, particularly those who were unable to continue maintaining them.

He had a true love of Scotland and it’s people, he spent many happy hours over the last 6 years in particular in Scotland. Traveling the Highlands, the Lowlands and the Borders.

He also had a great love of Clan Hunter and the Clan system, what it stood for and it’s history.

Dave was diagnosed with Leukemia almost 5 years ago, he was told at that time he would only live about 5 years and there would be no cure for him. This did not stop him enjoying life to the full, it did not stop him being a cheerful and dedicated friend to all.

David had a strong desire to make one last trip to Scotland last December, his medical team and I worked hard to get him well and strong enough to achieve this. He made the trip on the 12th of December lasting 3 day’s, our true friend Mary made a great effort to help make this last trip a successful one. Dave did not let the fact this was his last trip get him down, he enjoyed the trip to it’s fullest.

Dave refused to give up work all through his illness, he even worked Christmas Eve, though sadly he was admitted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Critically ill on Christmas Day. Dave spent a number of weeks in hospital coming home for a month and then returning to hospital for the last time very ill indeed.

Dave dealt with his illness as he dealt with the rest of life, with great courage and determination.

It was my honor to support Dave in his fight and take him around Scotland as he on one hand did not drive and on the other was often far sicker than he looked.

I dedicate this page, and the Remembrance Section to Dave’s Memory.
