Letter from the Chief

Dear Members,

A great step fOIWard has been made with this first edition of our Clan Newsletter. We hope you will use this publication to advantage by sending articles and photographs for inclusion in future editions. News comes in from all over the world, of all the many activities of our Membership.

My son Charles has recently returned from attending both the Annual Reunion of our USA Clan Officer in Mountain Lake, Virginia, and the Grandfather Mountain Games in North Carolina. Both of these colourful events are reported by him in this issue.

The year started badly for the family in Scotland, with the sad loss of two members of the family. Eleonora Hunter, the 28th Laird, and Jasmine Kennedy-Cochran-Patrick, the wife of my third son, Nigel. We have been helped to overcome this sadness by the many letters of support from our large Clan.

Our membership is climbing steadily,U .S. leads with the largest number of members at present, with Canada close behind. However we have a very active Clan Officer in Australia, and interest from many other far away places is continually being received. This is most encouraging.

We have launched two new activities this year: a Mail Order service, and a Travel Club. The mail order was born out of demand for the new Clan Tartan and we have introduced other goods on trial. We hope members will be encouraged to use this service as it ultimately supports the Castle Restoration and Maintenance Fund.

The Travel Club is a more ambitious project being tackled by my son Charles, from Edinburgh, to help members when they visit Scotland. His mother-in-law, Mrs. Lindsay Morison, who is very experienced with tourism in Scotland, is a joint partner in this business. We shall all watch this project over the next few years.

Finally before I sign off, I would ask you all to remember that we are having a Gathering at Hunterston on the 2nd June 1985, to coincide with the International Gathering of the Clans in Glasgow (May25-June 1) and our Annual USA Gathering will be held at Stone Mountain Games in Atlanta, 21-22 October 1984.

              • Best regards,
              • NEIL AYLMER HUNTER OF HUNTERSTON,

Chief of Clan Hunter. August 1984

Use of Crest Badge by Members for Printing

Cr

Cest Badge of a Member of Clan Hunter

Many letters are received from members with "Coats of Arms" and other designs made up on the notepaper.

The Lord Lyon office in Edinburgh is very strict about the use of any heraldic property, and in order to overcome any infringment we have decided that as a Clan, all our members should be able to use the Clan Crest Badge on their notepaper, with only certain

limited restrictions. .

On joining, members will receive a signed certificate giving permission from the Clan to use the Crest Badge for printing. this certificate includes a line drawing which will be suitable for your printers to use. Only this drawing may be used, and it must not be altered in any way. Members will also receive instructions explaining how to use this drawing
