FRENCH CAR RALL Y
On the 8th of August 1983, the 'Circle T' Vintage Car Club from Toulouse in France arrived at Hunterston Castle as part of its Tour of Britain.
Derek Bosom, The President, had organised the visit over a period of two years with our Clan Chief, who speaks fluent French. It was a marvel of organisation.
A Delage, a Delahaye, a Salmson, two Citreons (1921 and 1931), an Alfa-Romeo, a Model T-Ford Tourer, and a vintage Peugeot all arrived with a back up support team with a trailer and mechanics to keep everyone 'on the road'.
Staying at the Seamill Hotel, outside West Kilbride, the entire group enjoyed the hospitality of our Chief, Neil Aylmer Hunter, and a boisterous evening was had by all. There was Scottish Dancing, singing of Catalan and Languedoc songs, and much sampling of the national beverage. It was certainly a memorable visit.
Fortunately our Chief had the good sense to line everyone up for a photograph well in advance of the evening party.
Leaving the following day, the group headed towards the Transport Museum in Glasgow, and then onto their final destination: Inverness. We are happy to report they all had a great time, and returned, eventually to France, all in one piece. The only breakdown en route: the modern Peugeot towing the trailer!!
