DIRECTIONS TO HUNTERSTON CASTLE

FROM EDINBURGH CITY CENTRE: BY CAR: Journey Time 1 hour 40 minutes.

Take the west bound road out of the City centre signposted to Edinburgh Airport and Glasgow. (Via Haymarket and Corstorphine). Turn left at Roundabout 2 miles after the Airport following signs for the M8 Motorway (Freeway) to Glasgow.

If travelling directly to Hunterston stay on this road (M8) and follow the signs to Glasgow Airport (Greenock). See below for directions from Glasgow to Hunterston.

BY TRAIN: Journey time 40minutes.

Express service throughout the day departing from Waverley Station on the hour and half hour, and stopping three minutes later at Haymarket Station. Fare about 5 U.S. Dollars one way.

This train service arrives at Queen Street Station in Glasgow city centre. The train service from Glasgow to West Kilbride departs from Central Station. (About a five minute walk from Queen Street Station).

FROM EDINBURGH AIRPORT:

BY ROAD: Follow signs to Glasgow. (As above onto M8 Motorway).

BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT: Take No. 100 Airport Bus (Double-decker) from outside Airport terminal departs ever 20 minutes. Alight at Haymarket Rail Station if travelling immediately through to Hunterston, otherwise travel on to City Centre. Price about 3.00 U.S. Dollars.

We recommend against the use of Airport Taxis unless in an emergency. There are City Taxi Ranks outside all Railway and Bus Stations. (Licensed, Metered Taxis).

FROM GLASGOW CITY CENTRE: BY ROAD: Journey time 1 hour.

Pick up M8 Motorway (Freeway) at Charing Cross. 1 mile west of City Centre at the east-end of Sauchiehall Street. Follow signs to Glasgow Airport and Greenock. In Greenock follow signs for A78 coast road to Largs. 6 miles south of Largs entrance to Hunterston Castle is on right hand side. (2 miles from Hunterston Power Station roundabout). If you pass Seamill, you have driven too far.

BY RAIL: Journey time to West Kilbride: 1 hour.

Train service is approximately hourly from Glasgow Central Station to Largs. West Kilbride Station is after Ardrossan and before Largs. Fare approx. 5 U.s. Dollars one way.

TAKE CARE not to board a train to A yr which runs on the same line.

( On arrival in West Kilbride either telephone the Clan Office (Numbers below) or take the local taxi service from the village to the Castle. (Castle is 2 miles from West Kilbride).

FROM PRESTWICK AIRPORT:
BY RAIL: Journey time about 40 minutes.

Taxi to Prestwick Railway Station, about 2 miles. Train north on Glasgow Line to Kilwinning, and CHANGE THERE TO LARGS LINE (This change is important)! Frequency of trains from Prestwick about half hourly. Largs trains from Kilwinning about hourly.

BY ROAD: Journey time 30 minutes.

Travel North on A78 by-passing Irvine, through Stevenson, Ardrossan and Seamill. Journey time 35 minutes. Two miles past Seamill turn left at Stone Gateposts (no gate) signed "Hunterston Estate". Drive down the Beech Avenue tor half a mile to the Castle.

FROM LONDON:
BY ROAD: Driving Time 7-8 hours. Depart London on

M1 Motorway, turn off at Junction 19 after approximately 2 hours. Signposted to Birmingham. From Birmingham follow signs to M6 north, reaching Scotland after about 4 hours. This road connects with the A74 Road North and the M74 to Glasgow. Turri off at sign for A73 if travelling direct to Edinburgh.

If travelling direct to Hunterston, on arrival in Glasgow head for City Centre and follow directions as

 Distance by road 400 miles.

BY RAIL: Journey time about 4-5 hours.

Regular daily service from Euston Station via Edinburgh to Glasgow Charing Cross. Fare variable. (approx. 40 U.S. Dollars one way).

BY COACH: Journey time about 9 hours.

Several services available to both Glasgow and Edinburgh. Cost is considerably cheaper than by train. (15 U.S. Dollars). We recommend Cotters or National.

BY AIR: Journey time one hour 10 minutes.

From Heathrow Airport: Hourly service by either British Airways or British Midland Airways (recommended) to both Glasgow and Edinburgh Airports. Fares similar at approx. U.S. Dollars 55 standby, 80 U.s. Dollars booked. Standby seats are usually available: Ask.

FROM GA TWICK AIRPORT: Almost hourly service by British Caledonian Airways to Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Please notify us of your expected arrival, date and time, otherwide there may not be anyone there to show you around the Castle.
